The MGB seat cover specification changed at almost every major interior revision, and the correct cover depends on the production year, body style, and whether the seats are fixed-back or reclining. The original 1962 to 1968 seats were trimmed in leather with contrast-colour piping, black, red, or blue. From 1969, reclining seats arrived with leather facings in a revised pattern. From 1970, Ambla vinyl replaced leather, initially in black only, with Autumn Leaf added a year later. The 1972 model year replaced black with Navy, and the GT received brushed nylon centre panels while the Roadster continued with all-vinyl facings. For 1973, GTs had full nylon facings with transverse fluting across narrower side bolsters. The 1977 model year brought the final major change, brushed nylon deckchair-stripe facings in orange/brown or silver/grey on RHD cars, while North American LHD roadsters retained vinyl with the basketweave pattern extended to the side bolsters. Cover Kits Front seat covers are sold in kits to recover both seats. Rear seat covers for the GT are sold to recover both back and base. Leather seat covers are leather on the seat facings only, the backs and sides are leathercloth, matching the approach used on the original factory leather seats. The colour range is extensive, with both original colours and non-standard colour combinations available, and contrasting piping features on earlier styles of seat covers in both original and non-original combinations. Seat Kit Types Seat kits are available for non-reclining seats (1962 to 1968), the 1969-only reclining type, and the 1970-onwards reclining type as separate fitments, the cover profiles differ between all three. Half-perforated, half-cloth, full-cloth, and deckchair-stripe kits cover the distinct GT seat specifications from 1970 through to the end of production. US-specification seat kits are available for the distinct seat designs used on North American market cars. Correct identification of seat type is essential, recliner and non-recliner covers are not interchangeable, and the seat foam profile also changed in 1973, meaning that the correct foam must be paired with the correct cover.
