MG TD & TF Stainless Steel Exhaust Systems

Exhaust > Stainless Steel Exhaust Systems

The stainless steel exhaust system from Double S Exhausts is the long-life alternative to the recurring replacement cycle that mild steel systems demand on TD and TF cars. Manufactured in Britain from 309 and 401 grade stainless steel with a mirror finish silencer, the system is supplied as a complete assembly from the manifold flange to the tail pipe exit, and fits both TD and TF as a single universal specification. Material & Construction The system is manufactured from a combination of 309 and 401 grade stainless steel, alloys selected for their resistance to the high operating temperatures and internal condensation that limit the life of mild steel systems, with the mirror polished silencer finish providing an attractive appearance that complements the chrome brightwork of the TD and TF. The complete assembly includes all clamps, gaskets, and fixings needed for installation, and the manifold-to-downpipe gasket should be checked for condition and renewed if the manifold joint is disturbed during fitting. Fitment & Tolerance The system is produced to accurate tolerances specifically for the TD and TF, with pipe bends, bracket positions, and hanger points matched to the original chassis mounting locations for straightforward DIY fitment. It bolts to the existing exhaust manifold using the original three-stud flange with brass nuts, clamps to the gearbox bracket at the front, and hangs from the chassis rail at the rear using the standard two-mounting rubber suspension arrangement. The universal TD and TF specification means the same system fits both models without model-specific parts selection, although the original mild steel equivalents were model-specific from the front pipe rearward. Long-Term Value & the Double S Guarantee The initial outlay on a stainless system is greater than that of a mild steel replacement, but the comparison shifts in favour of stainless across the long term of TD and TF ownership, as a mild steel system on a seasonally-used car reaches end of service within a few years while the stainless equivalent is specified to last the life of the car. The internal condensation that destroys mild steel systems from the inside, particularly on cars used only intermittently or stored over winter, does not affect stainless in the same way, so for owners committed to long-term ownership, which describes the majority of TD and TF custodians, the stainless system removes the repeated removal, refitting, and alignment work that each replacement cycle requires. Mild steel and stainless components should not be mixed in the same system, as dissimilar metals at a joint can promote galvanic corrosion of the mild steel component. MGOC Spares has worked in partnership with Double S Exhausts for over forty years, and the combination of premium British stainless steel, expert hand fabrication, and decades of refinement means these systems are built to outlast the cars they are fitted to, with MGOC Spares standing behind every system supplied for as long as that exhaust is on the car.
