Wiper arms and blades are available across the full production run, with separate specifications for the Roadster and GT and for pre-1969 and post-1969 cars, the MGC sharing the MGB specification of its period. The change point matters because the arm spigot fitting and blade length differ between periods, so fitting the wrong arm will result in incorrect screen coverage or poor contact pressure. Arms and blades are available individually or as matched kits, and buying a kit ensures the arm and blade are correctly paired for reach and fitting.
Wiper Arms
Arms attach to the wiper motor spindles at the base of the windscreen and carry the blades. They are finished in silver as standard, matching the original factory appearance, with black-finish versions available for post-1969 cars and stainless steel options offering better long-term corrosion resistance. LHD-specific arms are available where the sweep pattern and arm geometry differ from RHD, and an adjustable arm is available for the post-1969 Roadster and GT, useful where screen curvature or blade contact requires fine-tuning. Arms are wear items where the spring tension reduces over time, eventually leaving the arm unable to press the blade against the windscreen with adequate force.
Wiper Blades
Blades are the rubber wiping elements that contact the windscreen, and wear in service should be renewed annually or when streaking, smearing, or chattering develops. They are available in standard and wide profiles depending on application, with the GT using a longer blade than the Roadster throughout, and in high-quality rubber or silicone compound, silicone offering a longer service life and more consistent wipe in varying temperatures. Blade refills, the rubber wiping element only, are economical for routine service where the blade frame remains in good condition.
Where arm and blade are bought separately rather than as a kit, the blade connector type, whether bayonet or push-fit, must be confirmed to match the arm before ordering, and kits take the guesswork out of the process for a straightforward replacement.
