The rubber bumper MGB introduced from September 1974 used energy-absorbing polyurethane bumpers in body colour as part of the structural changes required to meet US federal safety regulations. The bumper system is more complex than the chrome bumper arrangement, incorporating a steel armature and support structure behind the polyurethane facing, and the components for front and rear differ considerably from each other and from the chrome bumper car. MGOC Spares supplies high quality replacement components for the rubber bumper system throughout. The rear bumper armature assembly is the main structural component behind the rear facing, with upper and lower clamp plates available separately for targeted repairs.
The front bumper support and clamp plate are available for the front assembly. Corner brackets and spacers are available for both front and rear. Stainless steel backings are available in both the standard rubber bumper specification and the 1975-specific version. A back plate fitting kit supplies the correct hardware for a complete installation.
Front bumper badges are available in both gold and standard finish, with the correct push-on badge fixings available separately. Number plate backs are available for chrome bumper, early rubber bumper and later rubber bumper specifications, the number plate mounting arrangement changed across the production run and the correct back must be identified for the year of the car. Number plate brackets, buffer and bracket for the front rubber bumper number plate position, and packing washers are all available. All associated nuts, bolts and washers for bumper and number plate work are available throughout.
