The MGB hood is secured to the body by a combination of Durable Dot fasteners along the sides, Lift the Dot pegs at the rear, over-centre windscreen catches at the front, and a rear anchor plate that locates into retaining plates on the tonneau panel. These fasteners changed across the production run and differ between the grey packaway frame, grey deluxe folding frame, and black Michelotti folding frame configurations.
Durable Dot Fasteners
Durable Dot sets provide the female fasteners that are fitted to the body and engage with the male studs riveted to the hood cloth. Both bright and black-finish female Durable Dots are available, bright for cars up to 1970 with the grey frames, and black for 1971-onwards cars with the Michelotti frame. Male Durable Dot studs, base plates, and the dedicated fixing tool for punching and setting the studs are all available individually. A complete Durable Dot set containing nine pairs is available for a full hood replacement.
Lift the Dot Fasteners
Lift the Dot pegs and fasteners secure the hood and tonneau cover at the rear of the car. Complete peg sets including pegs, washers, and nuts are available in sets of eight or individually. T-base pegs are also available for specific mounting positions. The associated screws for Durable Dot and Lift the Dot base plates are available individually.
Stowage Straps & Bags
Hood stowage straps hold the folded hood in place behind the seats and differ between packaway and folding frame cars. Stowage bags are available for the hood frames, the hood canopy, and the hood cover, each a different shape and size suited to its contents. The tonneau support rails that give the hood cover its correct shape when fitted are available as a pair, with a separate stowage bag for the rails themselves.
When fitting a new hood, all fastener positions should be marked and punched once the hood is under correct tension on the frame, transferring positions from an old hood to a new one without checking alignment on the car will result in a poor fit.
