The dual-circuit copper brake and clutch pipe kit covers the significantly more complex pipe routing required for USA and later Canadian left-hand drive MGCs. The dual-circuit system uses separate front and rear hydraulic circuits, each with its own servo, requiring a much more extensive pipe network than the single-circuit system. The kit includes all rigid pipes for both brake circuits, the clutch hydraulic pipe, and the associated clips and fixings. Each pipe is pre-formed to the correct profile for the LHD dual-circuit layout and labelled for identification.
Why the Dual-Circuit System is Different
The dual-circuit layout was a US federal safety requirement during the MGC's production period. It provides a critical safety advantage over the single-circuit system: if one hydraulic circuit fails, through a burst hose, pipe corrosion, or wheel cylinder leak, the other circuit continues to provide braking on two wheels. On the MGC's dual-circuit system, the front brakes are on one circuit and the rear brakes on the other, with a pressure differential warning switch alerting the driver via a dashboard light if either circuit loses pressure. The pipe routing is entirely different from the single-circuit system, different master cylinder, different servo arrangement (twin servos rather than single), different distribution adaptors, and completely different pipe lengths and profiles.
This kit is not interchangeable with the single-circuit RHD kit in any respect.
