MGC Pedal Box Assembly

Brakes > Hydraulics > Pedal Box Assembly

The pedal box is sealed to the bulkhead by a gasket and to the cabin by a cover seal, preventing water ingress into the footwell, a common source of carpet dampness if these seals deteriorate. The box is secured by screws to both the dash panel and the bulkhead, with the cover plate held by four screws with spring washers and plain washers. The pedal fulcrum bolt runs through both pedals (brake and clutch on manual cars, brake only on automatic), with a spring washer and nut. Pedal bushes reduce wear at the pivot point, three are used on manual gearbox cars (one for the brake pedal, two for the clutch pedal) and one on automatic gearbox cars. The rubber pedal pads differ between manual and automatic: the manual pad is a shield-shaped design used on both brake and clutch pedals, while the automatic brake pedal pad is wider. Return springs pull the pedals back to their rest position after each application, and clevis pins with plain washers and split pins connect the pedals to the master cylinder push rods.
