MGC Carburettor & Components

Fuel > Carburettor & Components

Complete carburettor sets, new or reconditioned exchange pairs, are available for all four MGC specifications: AUD150 for 1967 to 1968 home market, AUD341 for 1969 home market, AUD287 for 1968 North American, and AUD342 for 1969 North American. Reconditioned North American carburettors are supplied on a customer's own unit basis, reflecting the scarcity of serviceable cores. Blank identification tags are available for re-stamping during reconditioning. Suction Chamber and Piston Components The suction chamber houses the air valve piston controlling fuel mixture via the needle and jet arrangement. Dampers with knurled black plastic caps and damper washers control the rate of piston rise. Piston lift pins with springs, neoprene washers, brass washers, and circlips allow mixture checking. Yellow piston springs provide correct return force. Piston guide keys with locking screws maintain correct piston alignment. Jet Assemblies and Float Chambers Jet assemblies are colour-coded: front (red body, yellow sleeve) and rear (red body, orange sleeve). Jet bearings differ between specifications: AUD150/341 use coarse-thread with a brass washer; AUD287 uses fine-thread with a jet-centring washer and tab washer; AUD342 uses a different fine-thread with a tab washer. Jet adjusting nuts also differ between coarse-thread (AUD150/341) and fine-thread (AUD287/342). Float chambers are common across all specifications. Front and rear float lid assemblies differ and include the float, needle and seat, and gasket. An improved Grose jet replacement is available. Float chamber adaptors are colour-coded (blue front, dark red rear). Throttle and Choke Mechanisms Throttle components include spindle kits with lock tabs, disc screws, and gaskets; throttle spindle bushes (four required, bosses must be reamed to 9.5mm before fitting); throttle disc kits; stop and idle adjustment screws with springs. Lost motion levers transmit throttle movement. Return lever assemblies differ between front and rear. Choke components include cam levers that differ between early (AUD150/287) and late (AUD341/342) specifications, in both front and rear variants. Choke lever spring kits, pivot bolts, distance tubes, outer tubes (late spec only), and distance washers are all specification-dependent. Pick-up lever and link assemblies differ between early and late types and between front and rear carburettors.
