Clear body protector is a transparent polyurethane film applied to vulnerable painted surfaces to protect against stone chips, car park damage, and minor abrasion. On the MGF and TF, the front bumper, bonnet leading edge, headlamp surrounds, door edges, and rear wheel arch lips are the most commonly protected areas. The rear arches are particularly vulnerable on the mid-engined MGF and TF because the rear wheels throw stones directly at the body panel behind them. The film is virtually invisible once applied and does not alter the paint colour or gloss level.
Application and Removal
The film is applied wet using a slip solution that allows it to be positioned accurately before the water is squeegeed out and the adhesive bonds to the paint. Professional application is recommended for large panels to avoid bubbles and creases, though smaller areas like door edges and mirror backs can be applied at home. The film can be removed without damaging the underlying paint, making it a fully reversible protection measure. Film life varies depending on UV exposure and environmental conditions but typically provides effective protection for three to five years before the adhesive begins to yellow or the film edge lifts.
