The wheel arch lips and lower wing area are the most exposed bodywork surfaces on any car, taking the brunt of stone impact from the rotating tyre. On the MGF and TF, the front wheel arch area is particularly vulnerable because the front wings are at the forward-most point of the car and receive stones thrown up by vehicles ahead. Wheel arch protectors, either adhesive film strips or moulded plastic guards, cover this vulnerable area and absorb impacts that would otherwise chip through the paint and primer, initiating corrosion on the exposed metal beneath.
Fitment
The protectors clip or adhesive-bond to the inner arch lip and are available in clear or black finish. Clear protectors are virtually invisible once fitted. The protectors should be checked periodically for secure attachment, a loose protector can rub against the tyre sidewall and cause damage to both the protector and the tyre.
When fitting wider wheels, the protector profile should be checked for tyre clearance, particularly at full suspension compression and on full steering lock.
