A hardtop transforms the MGF or MG TF into a comfortable weathertight coupé for winter use while preserving full open-top capability for the rest of the year. MGOC Spares catalogues two complete hardtop options, the Heritage design with feature lines and MG octagons on the B-posts, and a factory-profile alternative in primer, along with the full range of replacement backlights, seals, catches, mounting plates, headlinings and fixings needed to service either hardtop through its life. Heated rear window installation kits allow owners of non-HRW cars to wire in the factory demist function, and storage bags keep the hardtop protected when it is not on the car.
Heritage Hardtop, V640
The MGOC Heritage hardtop (V640 series) is supplied complete with storage frame and is distinguished from the factory item by feature lines that continue the car's bonnet and boot lid crease lines across the roof, together with MG octagon badges on each B-post. This gives the hardtop a more purposeful and MG-branded character than the smoother factory profile. Major replacement parts, including the heated rear window, backlight seal, catch assemblies and side seals, are shared with the factory hardtop, so servicing and future repair work draw from the same parts stock. The Heritage hardtop is available in gloss black with standard Ambla headlining or optional leather headlining, or in a wide range of MGF and MG TF body colours with leather headlining.
Contact MGOC Spares with the required combination. The Heritage hardtop is supplied for personal collection only rather than shipped.
Factory-Profile Hardtop, DXU000060LML
The factory-profile hardtop assembly (DXU000060LML) has the smooth roof profile originally offered by MG Rover as an extra-cost option. It is supplied in primer, ready for paint finishing in black or in the car's body colour to the owner's preference. As with the Heritage hardtop, it is supplied for personal collection only.
For owners who want the original factory look rather than the Heritage feature-line design, this is the correct choice, and the lower starting point in primer allows a professional finish to be applied that exactly matches an existing paint repair or full respray.
Heated Rear Window, Backlight, Seal and Installation Kits
Both the Heritage and factory hardtops use the same heated rear window backlight (CQB101190) and the same seal between backlight and hardtop (CDB100190). For cars not already wired for a heated rear window, one of three electrical installation kits is required depending on VIN: V642 for MGF to XD511058, V643 for MGF from XD511059 and MG TF to 4D620548, and V644 for MG TF from 4D620549. The installation kit provides the wiring loom, relay and the switch needed to feed current to the backlight element. On MY2000-on cars the dashboard switch (YUG102570PMP) serves both the hood HRW and the hardtop HRW, the wiring determines which is active when a given roof is fitted.
Cantrail and B-Post Seals
The cantrail and B-post seal assembly forms the weatherproof joint between the hardtop and the car's bodyshell along each side. A VIN breakpoint applies: DSF101280PMD (RH) and DSF101290PMD (LH) fit MGF cars to VIN YD531764, while DSF000060PMD (RH) and DSF000070PMD (LH) fit MGF from YD531765 and all MG TF cars. The seals are service items that harden over time, and a fresh set at the start of each winter hardtop season pays back in reduced wind noise and better weathertight sealing. Confirm VIN before ordering, the earlier and later seals are not interchangeable.
Catches, Strikers and Mounting Plates
The hardtop-to-windscreen catch assemblies (DXW100280PMA RH, DXW100290PMA LH) fit MGF from WD024605 and all MG TF cars, and are the same parts as used on the soft top for these cars. Earlier MGF cars use different catches. The hardtop-to-hoodwell catches (DXW100040PMA for MGF to WD027767, DXW100200PMA for MGF from WD027768 and MG TF) secure the rear of the hardtop to the body. The B-post mounting plates (DUN100340 RH, DUN100350 LH) are the body-side pickup points for the hardtop and are fitted alongside the soft-top hood mounting.
The first time a hardtop is fitted to a given car, a minor adjustment to the door drop glasses may be needed to ensure the hardtop side-window seals bed in correctly, this adjustment does not affect soft-top sealing when the hardtop is later removed.
Headlinings and Storage
Factory hardtops have dedicated headlining assemblies in Mist (pale grey), EDB102630LUM for MGF to YD531764, EDB000400LUM for MGF from YD531765. Heritage hardtops are supplied with Ambla or leather headlining integrated at manufacture. The V695 hardtop storage bag fits either hardtop and hangs the hardtop safely on a garage wall between seasons, with wall fixings included.
