Mirrors cover the full range of exterior and interior mirrors for the Midget, from original-style door-mounted mirrors to aftermarket wing mirrors and specialist overtaking mirrors. The Midget was not generously equipped with mirrors from the factory, so most cars on the road today have had aftermarket mirrors added or the original items upgraded.
Door and Wing Mirrors
Door mirrors are available in polished stainless and black painted finishes, both in the original Tex design that replicates the factory-fitted item. A torpedo-style mirror in polished stainless offers a more sporting alternative. Midget door mirrors require a plinth kit for correct fitment, the plinth sits between the mirror base and the door skin, providing the correct angle and a weatherproof mounting. The plinth kit includes the plinth, wedge, and screws.
Wing mirrors in round, oval, and rectangular head styles mount to the front wing rather than the door, positioning the mirror further forward for a wider field of rear vision. These are popular on cars used in competition where a clear view behind is essential.
Interior Mirrors
The interior rear-view mirror mounts to a centre rod that spans the top of the windscreen frame. The mirror and its mounting arrangement changed in 1970, early cars used a centre rod-mounted mirror with a specific bracket, while later cars used a breakaway safety mirror on a revised mounting. Interior mirrors are available in bronze-backed and chrome finishes. A replacement mirror head is available separately for cars where the arm and mounting are sound but the glass has deteriorated or the backing has delaminated.
Overtaking Mirrors
Overtaking mirrors are small convex mirrors that mount to the front wings, providing a wide-angle view of the road behind and to the side. They are particularly useful on a car as low as the Midget, where the restricted rear vision through the hood's rear window and the small interior mirror can make overtaking and lane-changing more difficult than in a modern car. Sports racing mirrors, a flat-glass circular design on a short stalk, offer a traditional competition appearance. .
