Hi-torque starter motors provide faster, more reliable engine cranking than the original Lucas units. The higher torque output spins the engine to a higher cranking speed, which improves both starting reliability and the speed at which the engine fires and catches, particularly beneficial on cold mornings, with engines that have higher-than-standard compression ratios, or with heavier-than-standard flywheels.
Hi-Torque Starter Motors Overview
The hi-torque motor draws less current than the original Lucas starter to achieve the same or greater cranking speed, which reduces the load on the battery and the starter circuit wiring. This is particularly advantageous on cars with ageing wiring where voltage drop across corroded connections reduces the power available to the standard motor.
Available Fitments
Hi-torque starters are available for both the A-Series (1275cc) and Triumph (1500cc) engines and fit the original mounting flanges. The installation is a direct swap with no modifications required. For the best starting performance, a hi-torque starter should be combined with a good battery, clean connections throughout the starter circuit, and a secure earth strap.
