Midget Tonneau & Fixings

Weather Equipment > Tonneau & Fixings

Tonneau covers protect the Midget's interior from rain, dust, and UV damage when the hood is stowed and the car is parked or stored. Two types are available: half tonneaus that cover the passenger side only (leaving the driver's area open for use), and full tonneaus that cover the entire cockpit. Both are available in four material grades: club vinyl, OE specification vinyl, double duck canvas, and mohair. Half Tonneau Covers Half tonneaus are the practical choice for daily use, the driver's side remains uncovered, allowing the car to be driven with the tonneau in place and providing a tidier appearance than an empty passenger seat. The half tonneau fastens to the windscreen frame and body using durable-dot press studs and lift-the-dot fittings at the same positions as the hood. Full Tonneau Covers Full tonneaus cover the entire cockpit from the windscreen to the rear deck. They are available with or without headrest apertures, the correct choice depends on whether head restraints are physically fitted to the car, not the chassis number, as many owners have retrofitted head restraint seats to earlier cars. A full tonneau without apertures fitted to a car with head restraints will not sit flat. OE specification full tonneaus are also distinguished by whether they use the velcro attachment introduced in 1969 or the earlier fastener-only arrangement. Tonneau Sticks and Stowage Tonneau sticks are the rigid support rods that span the cockpit beneath the tonneau cover, preventing the material from sagging inward under the weight of pooled rainwater. They are supplied as a pair. A dedicated stowage bag is available for carrying the tonneau sticks when not in use, keeping them contained in the boot without scratching the surrounding trim. Fasteners and Fixings Three fastener types are used across tonneau and hood applications: lift-the-dot sockets and pegs, durable-dot press studs and bases, and Tenax fasteners securing the cover to the cockpit sides. All are available individually or in packs for replacing worn, corroded, or missing fasteners. The tonneau cover rail brackets are shared with the hardtop mounting, these should be checked for security and corrosion whenever the tonneau or hardtop is removed. When fitting a new tonneau, the material should be at room temperature or warmer to ensure it is pliable enough to stretch over the cockpit rails without cracking or tearing at the fastener holes.
