Exhaust system components for classic British cars, covering complete exhaust systems in mild steel and stainless steel, performance tubular manifolds, centre and rear silencers, tailpipes, downpipes and fitting kits. Most British classics from the 1950s to the 1980s used cast iron exhaust manifolds with single or twin downpipes feeding into a centre silencer, rear silencer and tailpipe, with the system mounted on rubber hangers from the underbody.
Mild Steel & Stainless Steel Systems
Original-pattern mild steel exhaust systems are the closest match to factory specification, both in appearance and in tone, and represent the most economical replacement option. Stainless steel systems offer significantly extended service life, typically the lifetime of the car for a well-maintained example, at a higher initial cost. Stainless construction is now widely accepted on show cars, and modern systems are produced to original visible profiles.
Tubular Performance Manifolds
For owners seeking improved performance, three-branch and four-branch tubular manifolds replace the cast iron original. The individual primary pipes merge into a collector and join the standard downpipe, improving exhaust gas flow and giving a modest power increase, particularly in the mid and upper rev range. Tubular manifolds are popular on cars used for trackdays, hillclimbs and spirited road use, and remain compatible with original silencer systems.
Fitting Kits and Hangers
Exhaust fitting kits are tailored to specific model periods and are matched to the system being fitted. The kit typically includes flange gaskets, hangers, clamps, U-bolts and fasteners. Rubber hangers should always be replaced when fitting a new system, as the original hangers will have hardened with age and will not properly insulate exhaust vibration from the bodywork. Exhaust mounting brackets occasionally differ between gearbox types or body styles within the same model, please verify against your existing system before ordering.
Compatibility Notes
Exhaust systems are usually specified by chrome bumper or rubber bumper application on cars that span this transition, and by gearbox type where the exhaust mounting bracket differs. Centre and rear silencer profiles changed several times during long production runs, a 1962 example may not share its silencer with a 1976 example of the same model. The parts team can help confirm compatibility from your engine number or chassis number where you are unsure. The MGOC Spares British Classic Car Parts Exhaust range encompasses cast iron and tubular manifolds, complete exhaust systems in mild steel and stainless steel, individual silencers and pipe sections, fitting kits, hangers, clamps and exhaust hardware.
MGOC Spares is constantly expanding our range for these non-MG British classic marques, and new lines are being added to this section regularly.
