The crank position sensor (CPS) on a K series engine registers the revolution of the engine by using a magnetic sensor to read the teeth on the flywheel reluctor ring as the engine turns. A fault with the CPS will allow the engine to crank on the starter motor but not fire, returning a diagnostic reading of ‘no signal’ where the magnetic sensor has become contaminated with metal filings or the sensor cable damaged. Listed as no longer available by MG Rover, MGOC Spares stock new original replacement crank position sensors suitable for all 4 cylinder K series engines, as found in MGF/TF/ZR/ZS (but not ZT).
