Owners of chrome-bumper MGBs and MGCs with overdrive may find the factory dash-mounted switch a little out of reach when driving. MGOC Spares now stock UK-manufactured alloy gear knobs with integrated flick switch, giving you seamless overdrive engagement right in the palm of your hand - just where it should be. Offered for MGBs with 3 synchromesh gearboxes (7/16" Gear Lever Shaft) or MGBs & MGCs with 4 Synchromesh Gearboxes (3/8" Gear Lever Shaft).
Note: We strongly recommend that an inline fuse is fitted on the live feed to the switch. Routing of switch harness should be kept loose particularly around the bottom of the gear lever to minimise abrasion. If owners wish to conceal the harness, they can use 3/8" heat shrink on the gear lever shaft, in preference to cable ties etc.'
It is worth noting that standard factory MGB/Cs with overdrives did not include a fuse between switch and overdrive. This is a known vulnerability on the vehicle owing to abrasion of the harness and a point which is discussed within our blog post "Overdrives' The In's & Outs".
