The drive plate used on Steptronic MGFs, Stepspeed MGTFs and found on automatic Rover 200/25/ZR/400/45/ ZS transfers the power from the vehicle's engine into the CVT transmission. This sandwich assembly incorporates coil springs to provide torque damping during power transfer. The original MG Rover drive plates have been unavailable for a number of years. Replacement uprated drive plates are now available, manufactured by a leading UK clutch manufacturer and consisting of six springs for even loading and reduced fatigue as opposed to the original design which comprised eight springs (four small and four large). The smaller springs in the original assembly can weaken over time giving rise to a chattering noise when selecting drive.
