MGB Cooling

Cooling

All MGB cars up to 1976 used a mechanical fan powered by the water pump pulley to allow air flow. Early 3 synchromesh cars had a “Rear Fill” radiator, with the pressure cap fitted at the rear towards the engine. In 1968 with the introduction of the 4 Synchromesh gearboxes, the radiator changed to a “Centre Fill” type with the pressure cap situated at the front of the radiator towards the grille. Rubber bumper cars continued with the same set up until In 1976, the radiator and fan were changed again to a semi-sealed system with separate expansion tank and electrical cooling fan fitted in front of the radiator, operated from a thermostatic switch fitted in the top of the radiator.
