MGB Heating & Ventilation

Heating & Ventilation

The heater system on the MGB was only standard equipment (for home market models) from late 1968 onwards. The system saw little change over production, with only a few adaptations in 1971 for the demister and hose outlets. A Smiths heater and fresh air unit draws air through from a vent fitted on the scuttle. The heater matrix and fan are encompassed in a single casing mounted at the rear of the engine bay. The valve for hot water was mounted on the rear right-hand side of the cylinder head. Two controls in the cabin for air distribution and temperature were fitted alongside a switch for the heater blower. No MGBs were ever fitted with Air Conditioning from the factory, an aftermarket system can often be found on USA models, being fitted before the sale of a new vehicle.
