The MGB GT V8 fuel system uses a combination of rigid steel pipe runs and short flexible hose sections. The rigid pipework runs from the rear-mounted fuel tank, along the chassis sides under the floor, up to the engine bay and to the right-hand-side mechanical fuel pump. From the pump, a further pipe run carries fuel to the twin carburettors. Flexible hose sections at the connection points absorb engine and chassis movement, and the changeover between rigid pipe and flexible hose is a frequent inspection point during service.
Steel Pipework
The rigid pipework is steel, formed to specific routings dictated by the chassis layout. Replacement pipe is available in cut lengths and pre-formed kits. The pipe runs are clipped to the chassis at intervals to prevent vibration and chafing damage.
Flexible Hoses
Flexible hose sections are used where the steel pipework joins the fuel pump, where it connects to the carburettors, and at the tank end. Modern E10 ethanol-blended petrol places harsher demands on rubber fuel hoses than the leaded fuels of the V8's original era, and ethanol-resistant hose is the appropriate specification for any replacement work today.
Pipe Clips and Unions
Pipe clips secure the steel pipework to the chassis at intervals, isolating the pipe with rubber inserts where needed. Unions and fittings join sections of pipe and connect to the pump, filter and carburettor inlets. All components are available individually for spot repair or in larger kits for full system replacement.
Sub-Sections
Fuel Hose covers flexible fuel hose by length. Fuel Line Kits covers complete pre-formed pipe kits. Fuel Filters covers in-line filter elements.
MGOC Spares
MGOC Spares supplies steel fuel pipework, ethanol-resistant flexible hoses, pipe clips, unions, fuel filters and complete fuel line kits for the MGB GT V8.
