Body panels for the MGB GT V8 cover the major external pressings and the structural panels that form the bodyshell. The range includes wings (front and rear), sills, floors, inner wheelarches, bulkhead panels, bonnet, bootlid, door skins and the various structural components that make up the bodyshell. Most panels are shared with the contemporary MGB GT four-cylinder, V8-specific panels are concentrated at the front-end substructure (covered separately under Front Internal and Front Outer).
Wings
Front and rear wings are large panels that frequently require renewal due to corrosion, particularly at the lower edges where road salt and moisture accumulate. Front wings are bolted to the bodyshell, simplifying replacement; rear wings are welded to the bodyshell, making replacement a major job. Quality replacement wings are available with correct V8 specification details.
Sills
Sills are structural members running along the lower edge of each side of the bodyshell between the front and rear wheelarches. Outer sill skins and inner sill structure are both prone to corrosion and frequently require renewal during restoration. Sill renewal is structurally critical work, the sills are part of the bodyshell's primary structure and must be renewed correctly to maintain the car's integrity.
Floors
Floor panels cover the cabin floor area and are subject to corrosion from above (water entering past worn weatherstrips) and below (road salt and moisture from the underside). Floor panel replacement during major restoration is common, with full and partial floor pans available.
Other Panels
Bonnet, bootlid, door skins and the various smaller body panels are all available as replacement items where the originals have been damaged or corroded beyond repair. Each is matched to the V8's chrome-bumper or rubber-bumper specification where the panel detail differs between the two periods.
