Electrical > Lighting

The lighting system on a classic MG was specified to the standards of its production era, and modern UK road conditions, night driving on unlit B-roads, motorway use at higher speeds than the cars were originally designed around, and the substantially brighter standards set by modern lighting on contemporary vehicles, frequently expose the limitations of the original equipment. The Lighting section gathers the components needed for safe and effective lighting performance, from direct-replacement bulbs in the original specifications through to LED conversions that bring the lighting up to modern standards. Headlamp Options The dedicated 7-inch Halogen Headlamps and 7-inch Sealed Beam Headlamps sub-sections cover the principal main-beam-and-dip-beam units used across classic-MG production. Halogen headlamps offer substantially better beam output than the original tungsten-filament sealed-beam units, with the same physical mounting and electrical connections, allowing direct replacement without modification to the rest of the car. Sealed-beam units in modern specifications maintain the original visual character for owners restoring cars to period-correct specification. The LED & Uprated Lighting sub-section covers the modern LED conversions, substantially higher beam output with much lower current draw and dramatically longer service life, for owners prioritising lighting performance over period-correct appearance. Auxiliary Lighting and Hazard Systems The Fog & Driving Lights sub-section covers the auxiliary lighting commonly fitted to classic MGs, either as period-style mounted lamps on the front bumper or grille area, or as more modern LED-bar installations for owners building cars to a contemporary specification. Fog lamps provide a wide low beam for poor-visibility conditions; driving lamps provide a narrow long-range beam supplementing the main headlamps for fast night driving. The Hazard Lights & Relay Kits sub-section covers the retrofit of hazard-flasher systems to cars that left the factory without them, with the appropriate relay, switch and wiring kit for installation in the existing electrical system. Bulbs and Supporting Items The Bulbs sub-section covers the comprehensive range of bulb specifications used across classic-MG production, headlamp bulbs in tungsten, halogen and LED specifications, side-lamp bulbs, indicator bulbs, brake-light bulbs, interior-light bulbs, instrument-panel bulbs and the various smaller specialist bulbs that appear across the lighting system. Each bulb type is matched to the appropriate fitting and electrical specification, bayonet-cap, screw-base or specialist holders depending on the application, and stocked in the wattage and colour specifications appropriate to the original equipment. The technical team is available to advise on the right lighting specifications for a specific car and intended use.
