A stainless braided brake hose set with PTFE inner linings replaces all three standard rubber flexible hoses in the braking system, two at the front wheels and one at the rear axle. The braided stainless steel outer sheath prevents the hose from expanding under hydraulic pressure, which is exactly what happens as rubber hoses age, the internal structure weakens and the hose swells slightly under braking pressure, absorbing energy that should be transferred to the calliper pistons. This expansion is the primary cause of the spongy pedal feel experienced on many older cars. Braided hoses eliminate this expansion entirely, providing a firm, progressive pedal with consistent response from the first press to the last.
They also have a significantly longer service life than rubber hoses, which should be replaced every few years regardless of appearance as internal deterioration is not visible externally.
