The MGC front brakes use Girling 11-inch diameter discs, one inch larger than the MGB's 10.75-inch Lockheed discs, with twin-piston callipers. Three disc options are available: standard plain discs for direct replacement, EBC slotted discs for improved wet-weather braking and gas dispersal, and drilled discs for maximum heat dissipation during hard or repeated braking. Discs are secured to the wheel hub by five bolts with spring washers and nuts.
Callipers
Reconditioned exchange callipers are available in handed right and left assemblies on a one-for-one exchange basis. Each calliper houses two pistons, and calliper repair kits containing all seals and dust boots are available for complete overhaul. Individual calliper pistons can also be ordered separately. After rebuilding, calliper paint kits in red, black, or silver provide a heat-resistant professional finish, each kit contains sufficient paint for all four callipers.
Brake Pads
Standard brake pads and EBC Kevlar performance pads are available in axle sets (sufficient for both callipers). The Kevlar pads, the well-known EBC 'Green Stuff' compound, increase friction and braking efficiency with minimal dust, and are effective from cold without requiring a warm-up period. They provide reassuring, progressive braking suited to conditions ranging from everyday road driving to occasional track day use. Pad retaining pins and clips, anti-squeal shims, calliper mounting bolts with lock tabs, and dust cover screws with spring washers complete the front brake assembly hardware.
