The MGC uses two 6-volt heavy-duty batteries connected in series, located in battery boxes beneath the rear floor. Batteries are supplied dry-charged, order with or without acid bottles. Six bottles of acid are required for the pair. Battery cables include battery-to-earth (negative), engine-to-earth (negative), battery-to-starter (positive), and inter-battery connecting cable.
Insulating caps should be fitted to all exposed terminals.
Battery Mounting and Protection
Two battery clamp types are available: the original heavy-duty type with long bolts, and an alternative stainless steel kit improving appearance and corrosion resistance. Battery pads cushion the batteries within their boxes. Battery bins in durable plastic protect from road spray. Lucas battery decals provide a period-correct finishing detail.
Battery Security and Maintenance
A battery master switch behind the driver's seat isolates the electrical system completely, available in standard and FIA competition types with removable key. A battery isolator switch mounts directly to the battery post with a bypass fuse for clock and alarm. The Accumate battery conditioner is a fully automatic three-stage charger and maintainer, particularly important for the MGC's twin 6-volt batteries, which self-discharge more readily than a single 12-volt unit during storage.
