Two distributor specifications were used: one for home market and most export cars (Lucas number 41201), and one for North American specification (Lucas number 41224). The home market distributor is available on a one-for-one reconditioned exchange basis; the North American type on a customer's own unit basis. The distributor is held by a clamp with screws, washers, and a clamp screw to the housing.
Electronic Ignition Alternatives
Three systems replace the conventional contact breaker. The 123 Electronic Ignition is a complete replacement distributor in a polished aluminium body, incorporating Hall-effect technology with a microprocessor offering sixteen selectable ignition curves, including exclusive performance curves for Stage II and modified engines. The Magnetronic kit is concealed within the existing distributor, requiring only two wires. The Lumenition Optronic has no wearing parts, keeping the distributor permanently in tune.
A Performance Lumenition kit adds a high-performance coil and amplifier for fast road or competition use. A rev limiter is available as an additional safety device preventing over-revving beyond a pre-set limit.
Conventional Distributor Parts
Distributor caps (top-entry type), rotor arms, contact sets (original or one-piece type), condensers with screws, low-tension leads, and vacuum units (different for home market and North American) are all available. The distributor spindle bush, drive dog with pin, and O-ring seal support full overhaul. Vacuum pipes in original metal and replacement nylon, with rubber connectors (90-degree and straight) and clips, complete the vacuum advance installation.
