The standard heater matrix fits both early and late MGC heaters, though slight modification is required for use in the early type where the water valve bracket attaches directly to the matrix casing. A high-efficiency heater matrix is available as an upgrade, MG heaters are notoriously ineffective, and the improved matrix increases the volume of warm air delivered to the cabin, making a noticeable difference to passenger comfort in cold weather.
Water Valves
Two different water valves were used, matching the early and late heater types. The early valve attaches directly to the heater casing via a bracket, with an O-ring seal, two nuts, and spring washers. A cable clamp, screw, and shakeproof washer secure the control cable to the valve.
The late valve mounts on the cylinder head via a separate bracket with a clamping screw, plain washer, spring washer, and nut. Both valve types use a cable clamp for the control cable connection.
Hoses and Cables
Heater hose is sold by the metre in the appropriate diameter, with jubilee or supergrip wire clips for securing. The heat control cable and the air control cable (which differs between RHD and LHD) are available individually. Trunnion and screw kits, four required per car, secure the cable connections at each end.
