An SU HIF6 carburettor service kit contains all the consumable parts needed for a routine service or full rebuild of one carburettor. The kit includes float chamber gaskets, jet sealing washers, diaphragms (where used), the float needle valve, throttle spindle seals and the small fixings used during reassembly. Twin-carburettor cars need two kits for a full system service.
What a Service Covers
A typical carburettor service involves removing the carburettor, disassembling it, cleaning all internal passages and components in fresh fuel or appropriate solvent, replacing the consumable items from the kit, reassembling, and refitting to the engine. Synchronisation of both carburettors with a flow meter and adjustment of mixture follow refitting. The service interval depends on the car's use, but every five to ten years is reasonable for a road-used V8, fuel quality and dust ingestion both shorten the interval.
Full Rebuild
A full rebuild includes everything in the service plus renewal of items that wear with mileage rather than time, the throttle spindles and butterflies, jet bearings, dashpot piston and any other items showing wear. Rebuild components are available beyond the service kit; the parts team can advise on which additional parts are needed based on inspection findings.
Specification Notes
Service kits are matched to the SU HIF6 carburettor specification fitted to the factory V8. Where carburettors have been changed from standard, performance carburettors of a different specification, the appropriate service kit for the fitted carburettor type should be ordered.
