The rear spoiler range draws from the car's competition history at Abingdon, where aerodynamic development was part of the factory Special Tuning programme. No factory-fitted rear spoiler was ever standard, although the 1980 Limited Edition MGBs were the only production cars to leave the factory with a front spoiler, a black hard rubber item of aggressive shovel design.
Function & Fitting
A boot spoiler is available for the Roadster, fitting to the rear edge of the boot lid and adding a subtle aerodynamic lip that reduces rear-end lift at speed while giving the car a purposeful appearance. A tailgate spoiler is available for the GT, fitting to the upper edge of the tailgate. The aerodynamic forces are meaningful at the speeds these cars are capable of sustaining, the MGC in particular reaching approximately 120 mph in Roadster form with the GT marginally faster owing to its more aerodynamic roofline, so while the spoiler's effect at typical road speeds is modest, the visual improvement is noticeable. Both are supplied in fibreglass gel coat ready for preparation and painting to match the body colour, fit to the trailing edge without modification to the body, and are reversible modifications that do not require permanent alteration.
