The MGB dashboard changed at several distinct points across the production run, and the components for each period are specific to that design. The 1962 to 1968 car used a toggle switch dashboard with a simple painted metal panel and central instrument cluster. The 1968 to 1971 MkII introduced a pull light switch and revised layout, with North American cars receiving the padded safety-type facia, known to enthusiasts as the 'Abingdon pillow', in front of the passenger. The 1972 to 1975 specification brought the comprehensive interior revision with rocker switches, glovebox, and face-level ventilation.
The 1975 to 1976 period including the V8 followed, and the 1976 to 1980 rubber bumper car used the final specification with Triumph Spitfire-style instruments in dark grey Trinite covering. Each of these is a distinct unit and components are not interchangeable between periods. Reconditioned exchange dashboards are available on a one-for-one basis for all five production periods, allowing a cracked, warped, or damaged original to be replaced. Dash cover panels are available for US-specification LHD cars across several periods where the dashboard top covering differs from the RHD equivalent.
An under-dash panel is available in RHD and LHD versions to conceal wiring and provide mounting points for additional switches. The glovebox inner is available for both RHD and LHD cars. The glovebox lid stay, lid lock, and lock bezel are all available individually, the lock changed at September 1976 and the correct version must be identified before ordering. The instrument hood for the pre-1972 chrome bumper dashboard and the instrument binnacle for the rubber bumper dashboard are available separately.
A switch blank is available for the 1972 to 1976 dashboard where an unused switch aperture needs finishing cleanly. Crash rail assemblies and dash top covering kits are covered in the dedicated Crash Rail Trim section. All associated fixings for dashboard installation, including the fascia-to-body plate, screws, spire nuts, and finisher clips, are available alongside the main components.
