Seatbelt escutcheons are decorative trim covers that surround the seatbelt mounting bolts and anchor points. Polished aluminium or chrome-effect escutcheons replace the standard plastic covers, adding an interior brightwork detail that complements other console and trim upgrades. These are a simple fit-and-forget item.
Fitting and Finish
The seatbelt mounting bolts on the MGF and TF are secured at high torque to structural mounting points in the body, the escutcheon sits over these bolts as a cosmetic cover and does not affect the structural integrity of the seatbelt mounting. When fitting escutcheons, the seatbelt bolts should never be disturbed unless the belt itself is being replaced. The escutcheons are typically supplied with their own adhesive backing or clip retention and sit flush against the trim panel surrounding the belt anchor point.
The standard plastic escutcheon covers fitted from the factory are functional but visually plain. Polished aluminium escutcheons provide a noticeable visual lift to the interior, particularly when fitted alongside other alloy interior upgrades such as heater control knobs, console trim rings, and a polished gear knob. The escutcheons are common across MGF and TF models, the seatbelt mounting geometry did not change between the two models, so escutcheons fit both without modification.
Ordering Considerations
Escutcheons are typically sold in sets covering both seats. When ordering, confirm whether the set includes covers for both the upper B-pillar mounting point and the lower floor-level anchor, as some kits cover only the more visible upper mounting. The finish should be chosen to complement the existing interior specification, polished aluminium matches well with the standard Ash Grey trim, while chrome-effect items suit darker interior specifications.
