The interior of the TD and TF is characterised by the traditional T-series cockpit layout, leather-trimmed seating, Rexine-covered trim panels, black Karvel carpeting, and a functional dashboard with instruments and switches arranged for the driver. The interior is one of the areas where the TD and TF differ most substantially, with the TF introducing individual bucket seats, a completely redesigned dashboard, and a different sidescreen storage arrangement.
TD Interior
The TD interior followed the pattern established on earlier T-types. The seating comprised two separate cushions and a one-piece squab on a single bench frame, upholstered in leather on the wearing surfaces with Rexine on the sides and backs. The carpeting was black Karvel with mostly unbound edges, covering the gearbox tunnel (over a steel pressing) with the exposed edges behind the gear lever and over the handbrake bracket bound in Rexine. A small carpet-covered plug gave access to the gearbox dipstick.
The toeboard was pressed steel, usually painted black, with underfelt beneath the floor carpet but not under the toeboard itself. The interior trim panels were Rexine-covered plywood, except around the scuttle hoop where moulded fibreboard was used to fit the compound curves. The Rexine-covered scuttle masking panel (baffleboard) sat under the dashboard. The starting handle was attached to the back of the seat squab with three clips, below the tonneau cover rail.
Behind the seat, the heelboard was uncarpeted and painted black, and the tonneau floor was three pieces of plywood of which only the centre portion lifted for rear axle access. The sidescreens were stored in a vertical compartment at the back of the tonneau, as on the TC. The half tonneau cover tucked over the black-painted tonneau rail. A full-length tonneau cover was likely available as an optional extra, requiring additional Lift-the-Dot fasteners on the rear quarter panels, doors, and scuttle.
TF Interior
The most important interior change on the TF was the adoption of two individual bucket seats with individual adjustment levers at the bottom outside front corner of each cushion. The seat frames were hinged to the floor at the front so the seats could tilt forward, the tonneau rails on the backs of the seats, now painted tan rather than the TD's black, doubled as grab handles for this purpose. The TF upholstery used leather on the wearing surfaces and cushion edges, with Rexine on the squab edges and backs. The stitching pattern had seven flutes per squab and six per cushion, with border panels wider than the individual flutes.
Behind the seats, the TF sidescreens were stored in a horizontal compartment in the floor of the tonneau, lined with black felt and with a Rexine-covered lid hinged at the back. The TF heelboard was carpeted, an improvement over the bare-painted TD heelboard. At some point during TF production a change may have been made from Rexine to Vynide (PVC) trim material, though no part number changes in the factory Service Parts List document this transition.
Interior Trim Kits
Complete interior trim kits are available for both models in multiple colours: beige, apple green, tan, red, and black for the TD; beige, apple green, tan, red, suede green, and black for the TF. Each kit includes door panels in vinyl with leather pocket edging (as original), footwell side panels, rear quarter panels, under-door fillets, leather door piping, wheel arch covers, and the sidescreen box lid strap, plus extra material for the sidescreen box, cockpit rear, and dashboard.
Seats and Seat Covers
New seat assemblies are available as complete units, upholstered to original specifications. Seat cover kits are also available for re-covering existing frames. Wooden seat bases with or without foams, squab padding kits, and individual foam cushions are available for owners undertaking partial seat rebuilds. The seat adjustment hardware, brackets, slides, wing bolts, and washers, is model-specific between the TD and TF reflecting the different seat frame designs.
Carpet Sets
Carpet sets are available in black (original), green, and red for both RHD and LHD.
Dashboard Panels
TD dashboard panels are available in bare plywood (for covering in Rexine or vinyl to match the interior trim colour) and in finished walnut veneer (a popular upgrade from the original Rexine covering). The TF dashboard panel is available in bare steel and in walnut veneer on steel. Both models' gloveboxes, instrument panels, grab handles, and under-dash shield kits are available individually. Bronze paint aerosol is available for the TD instrument panel.
