Outdoor car covers for the TD and TF must balance rain and UV protection with the breathability that prevents condensation damage. This balance is more critical on the TD and TF than on later monocoque MGs because the ash body frame is particularly vulnerable to prolonged damp exposure.
Cover Specification
A quality outdoor cover uses a multi-layer construction with an outer water-resistant layer, a middle moisture-transport layer that allows vapour to pass outward, and a soft inner layer that protects the paint finish. Elasticated hems and underbody straps prevent the cover from lifting in wind. UV resistance is important for cars stored outdoors for extended periods, as prolonged UV exposure will fade both the cover material and, through a lightweight cover, the car's paintwork beneath it. Even with a breathable cover, the car should be uncovered periodically in dry weather to allow any trapped moisture to evaporate completely.
