MG ZR ZS ZT & Modern Wheels

Wheels

The single most important ordering distinction for ZR, ZS and ZT wheels is the stud pattern. The MG ZR (and Rover 25) and the MG ZS (and Rover 45) both use a 4x100 PCD with a 56.0 to 56.1mm centre bore and an offset typically in the ET38 to 45 range. The MG ZT and ZT-T (and the Rover 75) use a 5x100 PCD with the same 56.1mm centre bore but a higher ET42 to 50 offset to suit the BMW-derived chassis. The ZT 260 V8 retains the 5x100 fitment with an 18-inch wheel and 225/45 ZR18 tyre as standard. Wheels, locking nut sets and alloy wheel bolts do not cross between the 4-stud and 5-stud cars, MGOC Spares catalogues separate locking wheel nut sets accordingly: the ZR/ZS set (E036) for the 4-stud cars, and the ZT set (E037) for the 5-stud cars. Confirm the stud count on the hub before ordering anything wheel-related. ZR and ZS Factory Alloy Wheels The MG ZR was launched in summer 2001 with model-specific alloy wheel designs across the range. Entry-level ZR 105 cars typically left the factory on 15-inch alloys, the ZR 120 on 15- or 16-inch sets, and the flagship ZR 160 on 17-inch 'Straights' five-spoke alloys with 205/45 ZR17 tyres as standard. The 2004 facelift introduced the Trophy and Trophy SE trims: the Trophy added the 16-inch 'Gridspoke' alloy and rear bumper extensions to the lower-output cars, and the Trophy SE stepped up to the same 17-inch Straights as the 160. The MG ZS launched with 16-inch alloys on the 110 and 120, and the 17-inch wheel as standard on the ZS 180, again with 205/45 R17 tyres on its larger 282mm front and 260mm rear discs. Both cars share the 4x100 PCD with the wider Rover 25 / 45 / 200 / 400 fitment, which gives owners a wide secondhand and aftermarket choice from across the Rover Group and contemporary Honda Civic models. Anything below the original ET range can affect handling and accelerate hub bearing wear on lowered cars, MGOC also catalogues a rear hub bearing kit for the ZR/ZS (RLB000070, GHK1951 bearing) suitable for cars with rear drums and ABS, which is the typical service item for higher-mileage 4-stud cars. ZT, ZT-T and ZT 260 Factory Alloy Wheels The MG ZT range was launched in 2001 with 17-inch alloys as standard across the four-cylinder, KV6 and CDTi specifications, with an 18-inch upgrade option. Wheel designs included the multi-spoke 'Straights', the open-spoke 'Apex' and (later) the 'Apex SE', all on the 5x100 PCD common to the Rover 75 and the wider BMW group of the same era. The ZT 260 V8 was launched in October 2003 on 18-inch alloys with 225/45 ZR18 tyres as standard, and Mk2 cars from VIN 216 onwards retained the same wheel and tyre fitment. Aftermarket cross-compatibility with the 5x100 PCD takes in many Subaru Impreza and contemporary Volkswagen / Audi wheels of the period, though the 56.1mm bore and the wheel-nut seat type must always be confirmed before fitting non-OE alloys. Alloy wheel bolts (RRH100140) are catalogued at MGOC Spares for the ZT, and the locking nut set (E037) is the matching 5-stud security item. Tyre Valves, Sensors and Wheel Hardware Beyond the wheels themselves, the catalogue covers the routine wheel-side service items every car of this age needs. Tyre pressure sensors (Z185) are catalogued for cars fitted with TPMS, and flush-fit metal valve kits (W535) are the standard replacement when alloys are refurbished and the original snap-in rubber valves are renewed. Locking wheel nut caps (RRJ10001) replace the small plastic caps that finish the locking nut set, and wheel centre trims (RRJ000051MNH) are the inserts for the alloy wheel hubs themselves. A space-saver spare wheel for the ZS / Rover 45 (RRC116520PMN) is catalogued for owners restoring a complete spare wheel set-up, and Redshift wheel cleaner in 750ml and 2.5-litre sizes is offered for the actual cleaning. Adaptor sets for the ZR/ZS locking nut (RRB100140) cover the case where the original key has been lost and a replacement adaptor is needed to remove the existing nuts. As with the rest of the catalogue, identifying the car (and on the ZR and ZS, whether it is a pre- or post-2004 facelift Trophy specification) is essential before ordering wheel-specific parts.
