The MGB’s braking system responds well to targeted upgrading, and many of the improvements available deliver a meaningful difference in both performance and longevity without compromising the character or roadworthiness of the car. The Lockheed hydraulic system and Lockheed calipers used throughout the production run were a competent design that was ahead of many contemporary rivals, but the rubber hoses, standard friction materials, and single-circuit hydraulic layout on most UK cars are all areas where modern components offer genuine improvement. Braided brake hoses replace the standard rubber items with stainless steel braided PTFE-lined hoses that are dimensionally stable under load. Copper brake pipe kits supply pre-formed malleable copper pipes for the complete circuit.
Servo kits provide conversion equipment for cars not originally fitted with a servo. Stainless steel backplates replace the standard pressed steel front backplates. Brake drum covers in aluminium transform the appearance of rear drums. Uprated brake kits cover the full range of performance disc and pad combinations, from six-slot grooved discs through the exclusive 4-pot vented conversion.
Brake lubricants and tools complete the section.
