The MGB’s rear axle is located laterally by the leaf springs alone in standard form. Under cornering, this allows the axle to shift sideways, a characteristic that becomes more pronounced with wider or uprated tyres, where axle movement can cause the tyre to contact the rear wheel arch. The Panhard rod conversion adds a rigid lateral link using a ball-jointed design, positively locating the rear axle and eliminating this sideways movement while preserving ride comfort. Kits are suitable for MGB (up to 1976), MGB V8, and MGC, and are available for both banjo and Salisbury (tube) axle cars.
The two part numbers differ by wheel type rather than axle type: one suits wire wheel cars, the other suits steel wheel cars. Both kits are supplied complete with replacement U-bolts, fasteners, polyurethane pads, bushes, and fitting instructions. Important note for 1976-on MGBs: a handbrake modification is required when fitting the Panhard rod to these cars. This is covered in the supplied instructions.
