MGC Gauges - Speedometer & Tacho

Electrics > Gauges - Speedometer & Tacho

UK and most export cars received traditional 4-inch diameter instruments in the steel fascia, while all USA-market and later Canadian cars received smaller instruments in the 'Abingdon Pillow' safety fascia. Due to scarcity of rebuildable units, instruments are available on a one-for-one exchange or customer's own unit basis. Speedometer Selection The correct speedometer depends on the rear axle ratio, 3.071:1, 3.307:1, or 3.7:1, and is identified by the SN number on the instrument face. This is much the most reliable ordering method, as the combination of axle ratio, market, gearbox type, and date makes the application chart extremely complex. Speedometers are available in MPH and KPH, including North American, German, and Police variants. Cables differ by gearbox type (standard, overdrive, or automatic) and steering orientation (RHD or LHD). North American cars use an additional angle drive on both the speedometer and the gearbox. Original instruments can be refurbished with Magnolia or Silver faces for a distinctive dashboard appearance. Tachometer Tachometers are available on exchange or customer's own unit basis. The specification differs between home market and North American, with a further North American change at approximately May 1968. Glasses, clamps, O-rings, and knurled nuts are available for both instruments.
