The stainless steel six-branch tubular exhaust manifold is the most significant exhaust performance upgrade available for the MGC. Replacing the standard two-piece cast iron manifold with individual primary pipes for each cylinder, the six-branch design improves exhaust gas scavenging by reducing the interference between exhaust pulses from adjacent cylinders. The practical result is improved mid-range torque and a noticeable increase in throttle response, the engine feels more eager to rev and pulls more cleanly through the mid-range. The six-branch manifold also produces a more characterful exhaust note than the standard cast iron item.
Manifold Wrap and Protection
Exhaust manifold wrap provides thermal insulation around the manifold, keeping exhaust heat within the system rather than radiating it into the engine bay. This reduces under-bonnet temperatures, particularly beneficial for the MGC where the carburettor float chambers are positioned close to the exhaust manifold, and heat soak causes fuel vaporisation and hot-start difficulties. The wrap is easy to fit using a dedicated fixings set. Aluminised fabric sheeting is available for general engine bay and bonnet heat protection.
Tail Trims and Paint
Chrome and stainless steel exhaust tail trims finish the rear of the exhaust system with an attractive detail. High-temperature exhaust paint in black, silver, red, or white provides a heat-resistant finish for manifolds and front pipes.
