The cockpit rail runs along the top of the door aperture on the MGB Roadster, trimming the upper edge of the door opening where it meets the hood and forming one of the most visible trim details in the cabin. On a car with a worn, cracked, or discoloured rail the interior looks tired regardless of the condition of the seats or carpet, and because it runs the full length of the door opening on both sides it is impossible to overlook. The cockpit rail covering differs between early and late Roadsters. GHN3 and GHN4 cars from 1962 to 1969 used a fine-grain vinyl covering, while GHN5 cars from 1970 onwards used a coarse-grain vinyl. The two textures are noticeably different side by side, and fitting the wrong grain to a car that retains other original trim components will look wrong against the surrounding surfaces.
Both fine-grain and coarse-grain cockpit rail covering kits are available in black, with the coarse-grain kit also available in a full colour range, black, grey, magnolia, biscuit, autumn leaf, navy, red, maroon, green, and brown, with a choice of piping colour in black, green, red, or white. This allows the rail trim to be specified to complement any interior colour scheme or matched exactly to seat covers, door panels, and crash rail trim ordered at the same time.
Chrome Extrusion & Fitting Kit
The replacement cockpit rail chrome extrusion is available for owners where the rail itself has corroded or been damaged beyond recovering, the extrusion is the structural carrier to which the vinyl covering is applied. End plates finish the rail cleanly at each end. The fitting kit provides the correct stud plates, nuts, washers, cup washers, and pop rivets needed for a secure and correct installation, nine stud plates per rail, each requiring a nut, spring washer, and plain washer.
Rear Cockpit Panel Liners
The rear cockpit panel liner sits at the back of the cockpit behind the seats, finishing the transverse bulkhead in the main trim colour. These are available in the original colour range for each chassis family, black, blue, and red for GHN3/4 Roadsters from 1962 to 1969, and black, autumn leaf, navy, ochre, and beige for GHN5 Roadsters from 1970 to 1980.
