Braided brake hose sets are catalogued as two distinct four-hose car sets, one specific to MGF and one specific to MG TF. The two models have different flexible hose specifications, MGF front hoses are handed LH and RH, MG TF front hoses are a common part for both sides, and the rear hoses differ between the two models, so the braided replacement sets are similarly model-specific and are not interchangeable. Each set contains the four hoses needed to replace the complete vehicle set in one package, sized and fitted with the original connectors to drop straight into the factory routing.
Why Braided Hoses Improve Brake Feel
Each hose uses a PTFE inner bore surrounded by a tightly woven stainless steel braid. The braid restrains the slight expansion that occurs in standard rubber hoses under hydraulic pressure, more of the force generated by the master cylinder reaches the calipers rather than being absorbed by hose expansion. The result is a firmer, more immediate pedal feel and more consistent response as brake pressure builds through the pedal stroke. The improvement is noticeable on the first application after fitting and is most apparent during harder, repeated braking where the standard rubber hoses can produce progressively more sponginess as they heat up.
A Permanent Alternative to Perishable Rubber
Braided hoses are also a sensible choice for owners simply replacing age-deteriorated rubber hoses rather than seeking a performance upgrade. Standard rubber hoses perish from within over time, the inner lining degrades and can swell or delaminate, sometimes acting as a one-way valve that leaves a caliper partially applied. A braided hose set has an indefinite service life by comparison, and fitting the braided set during a routine hose renewal adds the pedal-feel improvement at no extra labour cost.
Fitment and Routing
Both sets are a direct replacement for the original rubber hoses, using the same end fittings at the caliper and the body mount. They are compatible with ABS and non-ABS specifications. The brake system must be fully bled after fitting to remove air introduced during the hose change, and routing should be checked at full suspension travel and full steering lock before the car is driven, the stainless braid can abrade rubber components if routed incorrectly.
