Two complete copper brake pipe kits are catalogued, both supplied by Goodridge and both covering the full vehicle pipe network in a single package. The split between the two kits is ABS fitment: one kit covers cars without ABS, and the other covers ABS-equipped cars. The two kits contain different pipes because the ABS modulator changes the pipe routing, non-ABS cars run the master cylinder output directly to the reducing valve and on to the wheels, whereas ABS cars route the two master cylinder circuits to the modulator block first, then onward to the reducing valve and the wheels. Ordering the correct kit requires only knowing whether the car has ABS fitted.
Why Copper Rather Than Steel
The original rigid brake pipes on the MGF and MG TF are plated steel, and like the coolant pipes they run the length of the underside of the car exposed to road spray, salt, and moisture. Steel brake pipe corrosion is one of the most common MOT failure points on older MGFs and TFs, and a corroded pipe that fails under pressure will cause loss of braking on the affected circuit. Copper pipe is essentially immune to the corrosion that attacks steel, it forms a stable surface oxide rather than progressively rusting through, and gives an indefinite service life in the same environmental conditions that will destroy a steel pipe within a decade. Copper is also softer and more easily shaped during fitting than steel.
What the Kits Contain
Each kit supplies the complete set of rigid pipe runs needed for the car, cut to length with the end fittings already formed. The installer does not need to cut, flare, or fit tube nuts, the kit arrives ready to shape to the car's routing and connect up. The pipes should be shaped by hand or with a pipe-bending tool to follow the factory clip positions on the underfloor and bulkhead, keeping them clear of moving suspension, exhaust, and drivetrain components. A complete system bleed is required after fitting, and a full brake fluid renewal is the usual approach when the entire pipe network is being replaced.
When to Choose a Kit Over Made-to-Length Pipes
The Brake Lines page catalogues copper pipe by the metre with tube nuts in brass and steel, which suits owners renewing one or two specific runs or preferring to cut and flare their own pipes. The complete kits on this page are the better choice when the whole system is being renewed together, preventive maintenance on a higher-mileage car, restoration after several MOT advisories, or renewal alongside a master cylinder or ABS modulator overhaul where opening the entire system is already planned.
