The Double S stainless steel exhaust range for the MGF and MG TF comprises four complete systems, covering two production eras and two acoustic specifications. All systems are manufactured in 309 and 401 grade stainless steel with mirror finish silencers, carrying the Double S lifetime guarantee, a meaningful difference from the original mild steel system, which typically reaches end of service after several years in British road conditions, with corrosion beginning at the rear silencer and progressing forward.
Production Era Identification
The MGF moved from a four-stud manifold flange to a six-stud manifold flange during production, and this change is the principal determining factor in selecting the correct stainless system. Pre-2000 systems suit the original four-stud manifold MGF, while post-2000 systems suit the later six-stud manifold MGF and all MG TF cars. The changeover occurred at a specific VIN, so owners should confirm their car's identification before ordering to ensure the correct production-era system is selected.
Standard or Supersports
Each production era is available in Standard or Supersports specification. The Standard stainless system reproduces the factory exhaust note closely, the same character the car had when new preserved in a permanent material, the natural choice for owners who value originality, use the car as a daily driver where acoustic changes would become tiresome, or simply prefer the factory tone. The Supersports system has a deeper, more characterful note, described as traditional and evocative on the pre-2000 variant and sportier on the post-2000 variant where freer-flowing internal geometry also contributes a measurable improvement in gas flow. The Supersports tone is noticeably more present than Standard but not obtrusive, and Supersports-equipped cars remain acceptable for daily use in built-up areas.
Connector Elbow & Fitting Kits
All post-2000 stainless systems require the connector elbow as a separate item, which incorporates an integral boss for the downstream lambda sensor fitted to year 2000-onwards cars and forms the mechanical interface between the car's existing catalytic converter section and the stainless system's front pipe, so it should be ordered at the same time as the system for any MG TF or post-2000 MGF installation. A secondary benefit applies specifically to MG TF owners, as the connector elbow allows the MGF-specification catalytic converter to be fitted to MG TF cars in place of the MG TF-specific converter, worth considering for owners replacing a failed converter at the same time. Two fitting kits cover all four systems, a standard kit with standard-length bolts, nuts, and clips for a typical installation, and a long kit providing extended-length bolts for installations where the standard fasteners cannot reach through to mounting points, with the standard kit the correct choice for most owners.
When the Stainless System Makes Sense & the Double S Guarantee
The case for a stainless system rests on three factors, fitting time being the same as for a mild steel replacement so only the parts differ in cost, the lifetime guarantee removing the recurring replacement cycle that characterises mild steel ownership, and supporting upgrades such as polyurethane mountings, stainless studs, and brass nuts being fittable alongside the new system with minimal additional labour. MGOC Spares has worked in partnership with Double S Exhausts for over forty years, and the combination of premium British stainless steel, expert hand fabrication, and decades of refinement means these systems are built to outlast the cars they are fitted to, with MGOC Spares standing behind every system supplied for as long as that exhaust is on the car.
For owners committed to long-term ownership, a stainless system is one of the most worthwhile exhaust investments available, and once fitted effectively removes exhaust maintenance from the car's service schedule.
