Front spoilers mount beneath the front bumper on both chrome-bumper and rubber-bumper Midgets, improving high-speed aerodynamic stability by reducing front-end lift. At speeds above approximately 60mph, the flat underside of the Midget generates lift force that reduces the weight on the front wheels, causing lighter steering feel and reduced front-end grip. A spoiler disrupts this airflow, reducing or eliminating the lift effect.
High-Speed Stability Improvement
The improvement in high-speed stability is genuine and noticeable, the steering feels more positive and the front end feels more planted at motorway speeds and above. On a standard Midget driven at speed, the contrast between spoiler-fitted and non-fitted is immediately apparent.
For cars used on faster roads, continental touring, or competition, a spoiler is a worthwhile functional addition rather than merely a styling accessory.
Front Spoilers Fitting
Spoilers are available in materials including fibreglass and polyurethane, in finishes that can be painted to match the car’s bodywork or left in satin black. Fitting typically requires two or three mounting holes drilled in the lower edge of the front valance or bumper bar.
