Midget Horns

Electrics > Horns

Replacement horns are available in chrome and black finishes, in both high and low tone. The original Midget horn specification changed during production, with single and twin horn arrangements used at different periods. On twin-horn cars, one horn typically sounds a high note and the other a low note, producing a harmonised two-tone sound. Horn Exposure and Corrosion The horn is one of the most exposed electrical components on the car, mounted in the engine bay where it is subject to road spray, salt, and engine heat. Corrosion of the horn body, the electrical connector, or the earth connection are the most common causes of horn failure, before replacing a horn that has ceased working, the electrical connections and the earth point should be cleaned and checked. A horn that sounds weak or distorted may have water inside the body, which can be removed by drilling a small drain hole in the lowest point of the housing. Horns Overview Air horn kits provide a significantly louder and more authoritative warning than the standard electric horn. These use a compressor and one or two trumpet horns, producing a sound that carries much further and commands more attention, particularly useful on faster roads where the standard horn may not be heard by drivers in modern, well-insulated cars.
