The 1500cc reconditioned engine is a fully rebuilt Triumph unit using entirely different components from the A-Series. The Triumph block, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, cylinder head, camshaft, and all internal parts are specific to the 1500 and share no commonality with the 1275cc engine.
1500 Rebuild Scope
The rebuild process mirrors the 1275cc in scope: rebored block with new pistons and rings, reground crankshaft with new bearings, new camshaft bearings, and a fully reconditioned cylinder head with recut valve seats, new guides, and new seals. The single-row timing chain and its separate tensioner are renewed. The front sealing block and rear crankshaft seal housing, both unique to the 1500, receive new gaskets and seals. All torque settings are applied to the Triumph specification.
1500 Long Engine Supply
The 1500 is supplied as a long engine on an exchange basis. The starter motor mounts on the opposite side to the A-Series engine, and the water pump arrangement is fundamentally different, so the ancillaries from the outgoing engine must be transferred to ensure compatibility with the car’s cooling system, electrical system, and fuel system layout. The engine bearer plate at the front of the block also differs from the A-Series mounting arrangement.
