This OE exhaust system suits the 1275cc Midget built from 1969 to 1972. From October 1969 the facelifted GAN5 designation was introduced, bringing BL badging, Rostyle wheels, and a revised grille, while the engine remained the 1275cc A-Series. The exhaust of this period is specific to these cars and must be ordered for the correct year band.
The GAN5-Period Application
The 1969 to 1972 cars carry the GAN5 chassis designation. The exhaust system continued with the bell-type manifold connection through to 1972, before the change to the flange-type connection on later cars. Confirming the manifold connection is the surest way to select the correct system, as the year alone can be ambiguous on a car with a non-original manifold.
Original Specification Construction
The system is produced in mild steel to factory pattern, correct in routing, silencer position, and pipe diameter for this period of 1275cc car, and reproducing the original exhaust tone. Mild steel is the lowest-cost, fully authentic option, with the expected limited service life in damp and salted conditions.
Silencers and Fittings
The complete system, or individual sections, can be fitted with the appropriate clamps, brackets, and mounting rubbers. As with all Midget exhaust work, the perished mounting rubbers are usually renewed at the same time to prevent transmitted noise and premature fatigue of the system.
Ordering Considerations
Confirm the car falls in the 1969 to 1972 GAN5 period and that the manifold uses the bell-type connection before ordering. Order clamps, brackets, and mountings alongside the system. A stainless steel system is available as a corrosion-free alternative for owners not requiring strict originality.
