The Type 4 exhaust system (1500cc, 1975 to 1979) was designed specifically for the Triumph engine and uses a completely different front pipe and manifold connection from any 1275cc system. The down pipe connects to the manifold via a gasket-sealed joint, neither the bell, olive, nor flared connections used on the 1275cc apply to the 1500.
1500cc Identification
Two changes occurred during 1500 production that affect exhaust system selection. The rear section of the system was revised at chassis number GAN6-200001, and the silencer mounting arrangement changed at GAN6-169792.
When ordering either a complete system or a fitting kit for the 1500, both the engine type (1500) and the chassis number must be quoted to ensure the correct specification is supplied. This is one of the most common areas for ordering errors on the 1500, the chassis number breakpoints fall in the middle of the production run, so earlier and later 1500s require different system specifications even though they appear externally identical.
1500 Fitting Kit Contents
The fitting kit for the 1500 contains the manifold gasket, system clamps, rubber mounting bushes, brackets (specific to the chassis number range), and all fixings. As with all exhaust systems, the complete system should be offered up with all bolts loose, positioned correctly relative to the bodywork, and then tightened progressively from the manifold rearward.
