Centre-lock alloy wheels combine the visual impact of a knock-on spinner fitment with the precision and consistency of a cast alloy rim. These wheels use the existing wire wheel hub adaptors and spinners, fitting onto the same splined hubs as a wire wheel. The only visual difference from a wire wheel is the alloy rim face in place of the 60-spoke wire pattern.
Centre Lock Alloys Maintenance
Centre-lock alloys are an attractive option for owners whose cars are already equipped with wire wheel hubs (either factory-fitted or via a conversion kit), who want the appearance of a centre-lock wheel without the spline maintenance and spoke tensioning that wire wheels require. The alloy rim provides a truer, more consistent running surface than a wire wheel, which can flex slightly under heavy braking or cornering loads.
Spinner Thread Direction
The spinners are handed (right-hand thread on the right side, left-hand thread on the left) and must be checked for tightness before driving, just as with wire wheels. A copper-hyde or lead-faced hammer is required for two-eared spinners; an octagonal spanner tool for octagonal spinners.
