From March 1968 (chassis number 1154), MGCs were fitted with a Girling MKIIB brake servo in a specific configuration. Designed to clear the underside of the MGC bonnet, the air transfer pipe ran over the vacuum chamber clamping band at approximately the 2 o'clock position. Other Girling MKIIB servos fitted to cars such as the Lotus Elan and Austin Healey 3000 MKIII have the pipe positioned at approximately 12 o'clock. Although similar, this arrangement prevents the MGC bonnet from closing. With replacement servos unavailable new, it is an easy detail to overlook when sourcing a used unit for reconditioning. Replacement Air Transfer Pipes, manufactured in the UK from zinc-passivated steel may be used to convert other variants to suit the MGC application.
